ONGOING/PERIODIC EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Mentors and Prayer Partners
Every Lent our confirmation youth spend time on Wednesday evenings with mentors.
We are beginning prayer partners for our kids through 6th grade in March 2017. Partners will come together once a month to pray with/for the kids. We are seeking two adults per child.
Please sign up HERE to be a mentor or prayer partner, or for some more details.
Friday After Class
Youth are invited to participate in activities on the first, or occasionally third, Fridays of the month from 4:30-7 pm (unless a special event is going on). We will have a snack, devotional time and fun activity for all.
People Serving People
Feed My Starving Children provides food around the world, including right here in the US, for children facing severe hunger. We have the opportunity to partner with them throughout the year and serve by packing meals, as well as with financial gifts.
Our next shift is January 6, from 6-7:30 pm.
Lutheran World Relief school kits
These kits are an ongoing ministry opportunity at Memorial. We rely on continued donations of funds and supplies to complete these kits. For 2013-15, this is where our children’s offering has been directed. These kits help with the education of children around the world. For a list of items to donate, click HERE.
The Sandwich Project Minnesota
We help by preparing sandwiches to be distributed. Our next date for this is during Sunday School, January 15.
VBS for 2016 took place June 27-July 1. We had a great week learning about the Jesus way. VBS for 2017 is June 26-30.
We use the Whirl Curriculum and follow the liturgical cycle, allowing kids and families to connect what’s discussed in Sunday School to what parents experience in worship.
Confirmation classes generally last 2 years at Memorial (typically, 7th and 8th grade), though older participants are welcome and encouraged. We utilize the Collaborate Curriculum as a way to engage youth in discussion while exploring faith, all in a Lutheran context.
