Hosanna to God, Hosanna in the highest!
Let Israel say, "The love of God endures forever!"
and all who fear God say, "The love of God endures forever!"
Hosanna to God, Hosanna in the highest!
With the Lord on our side, what can we fear? What can humankind do?
Hosanna to God, Hosanna in the highest!
We shall triumph over those who surround us and stand in confidence in the Lord, our God!
Hosanna to God, Hosanna in the highest!
The Lord is our strength and our might. The Lord has become our salvation!
Hosanna to God, Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna to God, Hosanna in the highest!
29 When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’” 32 So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “The Lord needs it.” 35 Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38 saying,
“Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven,
and glory in the highest heaven!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”
All Glory, Laud, and Honor, ELW #344
Refrain
All glory, laud, and honor to you, redeemer, king,
To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.
You are the King of Israel and David’s royal Son,
Now in the Lord’s name coming, Our King and Blessed One.
refrain
The company of angels are praising You on high;
Creation and all mortals in chorus make reply.
refrain
The multitude of pilgrims with palms before you went;
Our praise and prayer and anthems before you we present.
refrain
To you, before your passion, they sang their hymns of praise.
To you, now high exalted, our melody we raise.
refrain
Their praises you accepted; accept the prayers we bring,
Great author of all goodness, O good and gracious King.
refrain
Let us pray...O God of mercy and might, in the mystery of the passion of your Son you offer your infinite life to the world. In our isolation and distance we pray that you would gather us around the cross of Christ, our life and our hope. Hold all your children in your loving arms, we pray through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
6 who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
7 but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
8 he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross.
9 Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Tree of Life and Awesome Mystery, ELW #334
Tree of life and awesome myst'ry,
In your death we are reborn,
Though you die in all of hist'ry,
still you rise with every morn,
Still you rise with every morn.
We remember truth one spoken,
love passed on through act and word,
Ev'ry person, lost and broken
wears the body of our Lord,
wears the body of our Lord.
Christ you lead and we shall follow,
stumbling though our steps may be,
One with you in joy and sorrow,
we the river you the sea,
we the river you the sea.
God of all our fear and sorrow,
God who lives beyond our death;
Hold us close through each tomorrow,
Love as near as every breath.
Love as near as every breath.
Hear us O God, your mercy is great.
