Activity Idea:

Clouds of Wonder

Idea from christianministry.com

Revelation 1:7-8

Look! He is coming with the clouds;
    every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him;
    and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.

So it is to be. Amen.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

Things you need: One wide-mouth glass jar with a metal lid (mason jar), water, ice cubes, flashlight.

The Experiment

You’re going to create a cloud right in this room.

Pour a few inches of hot water into the jar and quickly cap it. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes, then put ice cubes on top of the lid. “Turn off the light and ask kids to hypothesize about what they’ll see. Shine a flashlight behind the jar to reveal the cloud.”

We know from science

“Clouds form when warm air rises and begins to cool. As air cools, it can’t hold as much water, so it forms tiny water droplets that become a cloud. Fair weather clouds (cirrus clouds) move with the jet stream, sometimes faster than 100 miles per hour!”

  • How could Jesus be riding on clouds?
  • When do you think Jesus will ‘return’? Why? Did he really leave?
  • If Jesus came back today, what’s the first thing you would do?

Dear God, We wait for Jesus’s return. While we wait, we give thanks for your Holy Spirit with us. Amen
